The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
