That Grisly Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Audiences
Among every adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally viewed, nothing has stuck with me quite like the terror-laced finale of a viscerally violent as well as deeply subversive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker crafted a dark, melancholy , often savage world that included a few small , forlorn hints of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a drive to expand the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was more a try to communicate a universal, multicultural message concerning “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is communicated via a band of colorful pastel bears , clearly inspired by a popular series of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a culture centered on warmongering and the defense industry, numerous these creatures are consumed by killing the mythical beasts, due to a sacred text that tells the bears they used to be rulers of the woodland, before the unicorns expelled them.
A few did not entirely accepted the brainwashing, , prefer to sample substances and engage sexually outdoors.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these bright beings show genitals and definite urges.
For a certain notably brutal, skeptical animal, Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns transforms into a route to control — and especially to dominance above his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , an obvious psychopath , and while fear dominates his group and claims his comrades individually, he takes more and more influence on his own behalf, through ever more violent, destructive ways.
At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own nightmare, as a spreading, destructive monster in their woods.
“Initially, it feels like a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it evolves into a more intense and sorrowful movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars begins resembling among the playful movies by a renowned filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in letting animated figures curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Subsequently it turns into something more like a darker work from that creator, with increasingly explicit brutality and a tangible link to genuine tragedy of war.
Ultimately, it is an outright extreme drama carnage.
The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween watch kicks in much sooner than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of extreme cinema who desire to view a movie they’ve never watched previously, and can endure a narrative which delivers unflinching brutality.
Watch it with the lights off without any distractions, and the finale will dig into your mind and stay with you.
