Star Denies Anti-Vaxxer Views After Narrating Contentious Covid Feature
The acclaimed actor has given his narration to a feature-length documentary that challenges the efficacy of vaccines and lauds ex- health official RFK Jr.
The Film's Disputed Origins
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the project is adapted from a well-known publication written by a disgraced researcher, who became famous during the pandemic for claims that Covid was caused by a bad strain of the flu vaccine.
The book's writing partner, Kent Heckenlively, has previously authored books with controversial media personality Alex Jones. The producer recently posted celebrating Neeson's role in the film.
An Unequivocal Denial
The team of Liam Neeson have issued a statement pushing back against suggestions that he supports anti-vax sentiments.
"Everyone can recognize that unethical practices may occur within the medical sector, but that must not be equated to being against vaccines," the response reads. "He never has been, and is not, anti-vax. His extensive work with the UN children's agency highlights his enduring support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The statement noted that the star had no hand in the film's narrative and that concerns about its claims ought to go to the filmmakers.
Key Assertions Within the Feature
In the film, the narration spoken by Neeson makes several controversial claims:
- It claims that pro-immunization voices have called for "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It declares that "medical science has become dangerously politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is shown saying, "The big problem with vaccines is that they simply are not properly vetted."
- The film also criticizes stay-at-home orders, saying they caused psychological harm that resulted in thousands of lives.
- On the topic of the immunizations, it mentions a report that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Previous Background and Ongoing Issues
It also references a past television report about clinical trials on children, which was subsequently the topic of a correction by the network for violations of guidelines.
In recent weeks, RFK Jr instructed the Centers for Disease Control to revise its longstanding position that there is no causal relationship between vaccines and autism. This supposed link is also referenced in the film, even with a fresh analysis from the World Health Organisation stating no evidence has been found.
A Previous Statement of Endorsement
Contrasting the film's narrative, Neeson has in the past voiced strong support for vaccines in his position as a Unicef global ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary achievement," stating that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has overlooked how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in history."
"Plague of Corruption" ends with Neeson's voice saying, "This is not the conclusion of our story. This is the start of a different phase."
