Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
