A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
